WTF? out for the money?
I just heard the top 2 bands for KROQ’s Inland Invasion. My first thought was What the Fuck?!?! Guns and Roses? Alice in Chains?
First of all, it’s not GnR, Axl’s ego boost. GnR was a band, a whole entity, not just him. Last time I saw he could barely make it through a song without being out of breath. It is one thing when one person is replaced (like Matt Sorum for Steven Adler, or later Gilby Clark for Izzy Stradlin), but to be the only member and live off the name and the songs, it is like an overblown traveling Vegas lounge act. Although Izzy has joined Axl and crew onstage lately in europe for a few songs, (It is neat to see that the childhood friends have worked to mend their broken relationship), it still seems like The Axl Rose Show.
As for Alice in Chains, it is weird because Lane’s dead. They never try to say that anyone is replacing lane, which is good. Also, Jerry Cantrell’s voice is just as much a part of AIC as Lane’s (Actually was probably a stronger voice overall). At least with AIC, it is the three surviving members. I liked Jerry’s solo stuff and the live tribute stuff I have heard, so it isn’t really disappointing as much as the GnR thing, it just got included in the shock due to the same bill. Maybe I am bitter because I never got to see AIC live. I had tickets a few times, but they had to cancel due to Lane’s drug use.
