Wicked
I had the chance to see the Broadway musical “Wicked” twice this weekend. It was a wonderfully clever back story to OZ. On Saturday night, the lead of Elphy was amazing. Such a strong voice. And Ga-linda was so bubbly. There were so many puns and references to the original Wizard of Oz, without copyright infringement. The only thing I thought was missing was a little homage to “The Wiz.” A little “Ease on down the road” would have been perfect. I have not read the book (yet) but understand from those that have that it was a good adaptation of it. Actually a few in the group liked it better than the book. I guess it did’t get as dark and depressing as the book where it relates to Ephy.
I had an observation about myseldf. I have noticed when I go to any play or show, I seem to get temporarily infatuated with one of the ensemble. Maybe it is the fact that sometimes there is so much going on, I need something to focus on. It is usually the brunette in the ensemble. (I am partial to brunettes). The funny thing is that I know most of the time that they are wearing a wig. It is probably the same effect that “Dancers” have on me at a strip club. It gets the imagination going and gives it something to focus on.I just thought it was interesting, the way the mind can wonder at times.
While waiting for my family before the show, I got some great pictures of the architecture and sculptures in the area. I will post them in the next day or so. I plan on going back as there is a lot of things to photograph within walking distance of the performing arts center.
I just saw Dr.Pepper used “Turning Japanese” as their “Turning 23″ jingle. Sad. Just sad.
