Once again the “Fail Whale” has been prominent on Twitter. More and more people are using it, but the inconsistency can be frustrating. In order to ease the downtime, certain features are disabled from time to time. I know quite a few people that would pay to have some sort of premium service.
A couple weeks ago I tweeted an idea, but due to downtime, some people may not have received it.

so for the rest of you who use Twitter, how about a SETI type of shared processing client.
I have a Mac Mini that sits and does not do a lot when I am not uploading songs to my iPods. Couple that with a Simplify Media style local client that would allow me to host and store my own tweets, and possibly those of my followers, (a local backup server) then I think we have a winner.
There is one problem. I don’t have the skills to build something like this. In theory it should work, but can anyone practically get it going, and even more so, is it something Twitter would pursue.
Regardless, I like the idea.
