This post in response to a questions my friend Kathleen asked on her blog.
“So what motivates you? What gets you to flesh out tweets into posts, or take that idea you talked about with your friend via instant messenger into a full-on blog post? What keeps you posting often, and more importantly, what do you do when you hit a dry spell and can’t come up with anything to blog about?”

Here is my response to her, in the form of my own blog post.
I hear you. I am in the same boat. I wrote something like that in October. By the time I have time to sit and blog, I feel like I have already said it somewhere. What will actually get a full post out of me really depends on where I am at the time the Idea comes to fruition. If I am home by the computer, and it is more than a 140c. thought, than I will write a post on fejsez.com. Even though I have the WordPress app on the iPhone, it is not as easy to write. (Maybe that will change with the iPad ) Other than that, I subscribe to the cult of done, and if I have said it, I move on, or if it goes too long from thought and I don’t write it, I move on. (I also use a lot of comma’s to make run-on sentences). Another thing that makes140c. posting easier is I get to spend more time experiencing things and spending time with Katie and others and less time writing. Between our work schedules that quality time is cherished and I don’t want to lose it. I am ok letting my blog go dormant for a while. That is the wonderfulness of RSS and Twitter. When I do write a post, people that follow me will know then. I recently renewed my web hosting after letting it go dormant for a few months. Mainly to have the webspace to test site designs for my mother in law. (I want to redo her site, which is on a Flash-based template and not the easiest to edit.) It also gave me a chance to renew the Wheaton’s law site I made. (www.ruleoftheinternet.com)

While I aspire to write more, when I don’t have time and not in the practice, it is hard to do. I have been trying to do www.750words.com to practice, but I have been having trouble finding the time. Like I mentioned before, the time with Katie when we are not working or riding (her horse, my bike) is valuable. Add to that Jasper, our puppy, who requires a lot of attention and walks it makes it hard. I have the potential to get up early and spend 30-60 minutes writing, but we all know potential=not doing shit right now. I am hoping that now that we are settled here in texas I will be able to get into the groove and write more about the new experiences her in Austin. I do feel better when I have the writing outlet. But as most prolific bloggers and writers have said, the best way to get better at writing is to write, and not be afraid to suck. I think lately I have been doing too much self editing in my head and not writing enough of it down, no matter how scattered it may feel.
Most of all, when I don’t have anything to blog about, I don’t.

I hope to be updating and getting back into my geek mode more now that I don’t have the Lead responsibility I formerly had. That and I am learning to not tale work home with me.
Most of all expect more pictures of the cats and of our new puppy Jasper. Here he is with Katie’s horse Dallas.
