Yesterday Barack Obama voted for the yes on the FISA Amendments Act, reversing a stance earlier where he said he would support Senator Chris Dodd’s filibuster of the amendment if it came to the Senate floor with the retroactive immunity for telecommunication companies clause still in it. I too was disappointed that he went back on his pledge. Disappointed I say, but not disgusted as some previously loyal supporters and bloggers are. I know this is politics, and know that there are some realities to face.

Obama is a breath of fresh air. He inspires people when he talks. He moves people. People need to see he is not the messiah, he is human. He is also a politician. There is a bigger picture here, mainly the presidential election. If he were to vote against a bll that was already set to pass, could you imagine the ammo the republicans would have in the upcoming election. “He voted against securing you against terror!” Before the actual vote, Obama did vote for an amendment to the bill that would strip the immunity, but was shot down by a two-thirds vote. This was a straight up forward thinking political move.

Would I liked to have seen him start up a filibuster a la Mr. Smith goes to Washington? Hell Yes I would! Would it have stopped the bill? I think not. I also think Senator Obama is thinking ahead, knowing if he becomes president, he can work on changing things like this, even pushing it to the supreme court to have the immunity determined unconstitutional.

To win the election, I know that he has to come more to center. I have faith that once he is elected, he will do his best to fulfill his campaign promises. There have not been many things that have disappointed me about this campaign. Unfortunately the decision to not fulfill a pledge he made last year is one of them. I also know that there will be other things that I won’t agree with, or that he may change his stance upon for a reason. We all do it. The big picture is not always as clear when looking at individual points.

Bottom line: I still believe OBAMA 08

Katie and I have been adamant supporters of Obama for a while now. This latest announcement is just one more reason why I like him. It is in our court to take back our government, and I think Barack is just the man to help us. If you agree, please help in whatever way you can.

Landmark gone?

As Katie and I drove up Harbor Blvd from 19th Street in Costa Mesa, I noticed that the Pasta Connection was gone. It was quite a shock for me and I did notice a “for lease” sign on the fence around the location. Many may recognize the photo below from their sign:

According to an article in the Daily Pilot , the owners would

“would like to reopen in the same spot as soon as the landlord, the Murrell Co., is finished with the new building. The landlord, though, is asking for higher rent than the property’s previous owner, and Pasta Connection has yet to reach a deal. “

It also looks that they would like to keep a location in Costa Mesa, but depending the costs, that is yet to be seen. I personally will miss the original location and my favorite the #35 (the Pasta Connection Speciale). The little house feel was quaint and had a personable feel. Usually when a big renovation like this happens the new place looks sterile and homogenized. It is hard to recreate the kitchen/ dining room feel the original restaurant had.
If the Pasta Connection can’t make a deal for the original location, I do hope they find a secondary spot that has as much atmosphere as the original.

Election result gripes

On the eve of Super Tuesday, it came to my mind how unfair the way the election results are released. With the time difference there can be an adverse affect to the results of the West Coast.
With the Democratic candidates being so close, I would hate to see the West Coast voters to stop going to the polls because they think that a candidate has already locked things up due to election results and projected winners being announced long before the polls close here.
The news and their “projections” can make or break an election, and I think it actually does more harm then good in a close race.
In my opinion they should not start releasing any results from the contiguous 48 states until the polls are closed on the West Coast. I know that leaves Alaska and Hawaii out, but they do not have the same amount of delegate power that California does.

I have been leaning towards Edwards or Obama, but now that Edwards has dropped out, the decision for me is clear.

Thanks to Wil for inspiration to put it up. While the title of his blog post may be

“not that my endorsement means much of anything, but..”

but I believe the personal endorsements mean a lot to those around us.
Whomever you believe in, endorse!
