Driven to crime-Road Warrior imminent?

This is via Commute by bike

While this is funny, it still makes me wonder if people are going to start siphoning gas like they did in the 1970’s. While then there was a gas shortage, and everyone needed to buy locking gas caps. In my car I need to pull a lever to open the door to access the gas cap, but if people are desperate enough to start siphoning gas, levering a tiny door would not be unthinkable. Do I need to get a locking gas cap again? Am I paranoid? As I stated the other day via Twitter:

I know I am not the only one who has had to totally adjust the budget to take into account the high gas prices. Unfortunately Katie does not work close enough to either job and has equipment to haul so she must drive. Luckily I am able to offset that with the bike and bus. Something needs to be done about this, or it will turn into a Mad Max type of society. I am getting to old for the Thunderdome.

I think I will leave my car parked as much as I can, ride my bike more, and watch out for bikejackers.

early to rise

When the alarm went off this morning at six. I automatically hit the snooze. I so wanted to sleep in. It would have been easy. I didn’t have to be at work till 9. I coukd snooze till eight. I could drive to work and then Katie could meet me there tonight. We could carpool from there and pick my car up after our engagement.
Who would know?
I would, that’s who.
This is the fight that my brain had this morning. It does this a lot of mornings.
It all a seems pretty minor, but it is a big deal. For one, by getting up a little earlier I can take the bus (from where I an writing this). It will save gas and money since my employer pays for my public transportation.
Secondly, there is no reason for both Katie and I to be driving when I have the means to minimize the vehicle use on the roads, even if it is only by one. Call me a new age hippie if you’d like.
Lastly, as aformentioned, it will help the vacation budget. Every penny counts and we want to be able to enjoy our trip to Georgia.
Speaking of the trip, I am real excited because this time in addition to Atlanta, I get to see Savannah and Athens.

Thats all the mental vomit for now. Bus is here. If I try to type while on the bus I will make myself bus-sick.
