Fifteen years ago today I was given a new lease on life. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. Although I had a family ad friends that loved me and a good job, it was not enough to get me free of the vicious cycle I was in. I was insane.
After a moment of clarity, I was humbled and have been willing to go to any lengths to achieve the freedom that I have been given.
A few simple steps, and being honest and accountable go a long way as long as I am willing. I don’t mention my sobriety much, as it is a who I am and a daily part of my life. Once a year I feel I should show some public gratitude for those who have been there along the way through good times and bad. That goes for those who may not even know they helped or touched me. We touch people in so many ways, and I have learned to try to like my life in a way that will help my fellow man, not take from them.

To all those who read this: Thank You!

“True ambition is not what we thought it was. True ambition is the deep desire to live usefully and walk humbly under the grace of God.” (12×12)

I never thought I would reach this age. At the rate I was going, I really shouldn’t have. I try not to make a big deal out of birthdays, but today in a way it feels like it. Maybe it is because Katie thinks it is a big deal, and so should I. Maybe it is because how much I am enjoying life and want to keep living and giving. In twelve days I have another anniversary which I attribute to saving my life. More on that then.

Today I:

spent the morning with Katie (Swoon)

rode 10 miles round trip, including a hill I never thought I could conquer to the movies and back (Wanted is a good movie. I recommend seeing it in the theater)

did over a hundred pushups (week 4 day 3 column 3)

am on the way to spend the evening with my Parents, Brother and Sister

have received many birthday wishes from all areas of my life

What can I say when the day is filled with love and life besides:

It is a perfect birthday!

This is via Commute by bike

While this is funny, it still makes me wonder if people are going to start siphoning gas like they did in the 1970′s. While then there was a gas shortage, and everyone needed to buy locking gas caps. In my car I need to pull a lever to open the door to access the gas cap, but if people are desperate enough to start siphoning gas, levering a tiny door would not be unthinkable. Do I need to get a locking gas cap again? Am I paranoid? As I stated the other day via Twitter:

I know I am not the only one who has had to totally adjust the budget to take into account the high gas prices. Unfortunately Katie does not work close enough to either job and has equipment to haul so she must drive. Luckily I am able to offset that with the bike and bus. Something needs to be done about this, or it will turn into a Mad Max type of society. I am getting to old for the Thunderdome.

I think I will leave my car parked as much as I can, ride my bike more, and watch out for bikejackers.

It is that time of year when everyone makes their new years resolutions.

“I am going to go to the gym”
“I am going to stop smoking”
I will try to eat less sugar”
etc…

And it seems for the most part by February they have forgotten it or justified why they are not doing it.

For my new years resolution, I am going with the same one I have had for the last 15 years. And I HAVE KEPT IT!!!

My resolution for 2008 is to not go on a 37 state killing spree.

Now a 36 state one is ok, but 37, that is stepping over the line.

In all seriousness, I don’t get the once a year resolution thing. I believe that every day that I wake up, I need to make a resolution to be a better person. Be that person I always wanted to be and help others to do the same. I should <del>try to</del> treat others with honesty, compassion, and respect. If I fall short, then I learn where I can do better and <strike>try to </strike>improve on in the future.

I hope everyone has a wonderful 2008!

I woke up this morning and headed down to the beach to meet with the group. I am so glad I did. It totally rejuvenated me and got me back into the groove. You ever go somewhere and know you belong? I did that today. Then I wonder why I kept away so long. What was I afraid of? The ego is a funny thing. Thats why I need to remember its not about me. (it’s all about the cats, so they think.) I ran into an old customer of mine. All those years and he didn’t know I was sober. Now that he is sober, he does.

Super Mario Brothers on the DS is still addicting.

Loving Heroes and LOST! Probably going to start a Podcast with my friend Jesse who also does “The MousePod” to discuss the latest theories and critiques-just combined all of the Heroes Graphic Novels (1-31) into one PDF

Work is wonderful..lots of neat things going on.

Katie is the best. Such a soulmate.

The cats are crazy. MuShu loves to burrow at 4am. She also has the rankest farts. (I do try and blame mine on her, but Katie does not believe me )

Have made contact with some dear old friends. It feels good.

Faith answers whenever fear knocks and everything is ok.

That is all for know.

Recently I received my order from LUSH for Katie and I. In the past I have just picked up stuff while in San Francisco. This time I ordered online because “taking a tub” has become a relaxation ritual for the both of us. I really like the LUSH products and wanted to expand into the facial cleansing products and such because of their natural ingredients. The only problem is I wanted to make sure that I liked the scents. The way we dealt with this was to take a trop up to Santa Monica to the local LUSH store. I love roadtrips with Katie. When she doesn’t sleep (The car does that to her) we talk and have lots of fun. After donating our recycling at the OCC Recycling Center, we headed up the 405. Where Katie is from they call it the expressway. She doesn’t get the term Freeway or Highway. I like to tease her about the regional differences, as she does me. We are both kinda ‘tarded that way. The Third Street Promenade is just like most outdoor malls. It was neat to walk around and see people filming a movie, getting coffee, and even the “Homeless on bikes” mini parade. (It was a group of people that had custom bikes that included garbage bags of stuff and lots of mismatched parts. We got to take in all the products, and picked up a few so now we no what to order online next time. Luckily at this time the wind hadn’t picked up so we walked around for a bit and then stopped at Barney’s Beanery to eat. (We were both getting grumpy) After the food, we decided to head back home before traffic picked up. Katie got a new phone yesterday and I was a bit jealous. It was a RAZR like mine, but a step up. I am waiting for the iPhone in June, but after seeing her phone I couldn’t wait any longer. The RAZR has come a long way in a year. This one has so many more features than my old one and a better camera. I used to not care about the camera, but I really use it a lot. It is great for posting things to my blog, as you can see.
It wasn’t the best sports year for my teams. The Kings sucked pretty bad this year in Hockey. Oh well, their turn will come again soon. The Seahawks made the playoffs, but not by much. My soccer teams are not faring too well, but it doesn’t look like the will be suffering relegation. Nascar just started up and it is Playoff Hockey. I love this time of year. Something about the Stanley Cup. The Ducks just might do it this year.

OMG, LOST was amazing last night. Lots of little things. Especially the end flashback. Not going o go too much into it right now, but I really enjoyed the episode. I cant wait fro HEROES to be back on. Next week I believe

Ever heard the phrase “Never had it so good”? Everyday lately seems to bring reality to that statement.
