Lemur Multi-Touch Touchscreen, Reviewed

Lemur Multi-Touch Touchscreen, Reviewed:

lemur1.jpgDreaming of a multi-touch touchscreen future? For musicians, the future is now — if you can pony up the $2500 price of admission, that is. The Lemur, the Star Trek-like touchscreen hardware built for musicians, has now found its way into the hands of actual users. What’s the verdict? Depends on whom you ask. The colorful interface, with floating circles and faders that respond to simulated physics, can indeed be programmed to perform some amazing tasks. Getting it up and running is a challenge, however, and might have you running back to dramatically cheaper MIDI controllers with old-fashioned faders and knobs. Keytar, anyone?

Ladyada writes about her Pac-Man wheels – “The technology here is “persistence of vision”…when LEDs move fast enough they can “draw” an image when the wheel spins. That’s the basis behind both the MiniPOV and SpokePOV toys that I designed last year. I rode this design around last burningman, obviously ive adjusted the image so they’re “upside down” here for better photographing! If you’d like to build your own, check out the full instructions on Instructables Link.
