Sleepless in…Texas still

I tried my hardest, but could not sleep. I get this way in cars and planes also. I can’t sleep very well sitting up. Especially if I can’t turn on my side. As I posted earlier I was up at 2:30 am taking pictures with Hipstomatic on my iPhone, and tried to sleep, but to no avail. I may have napped out for a few minutes Here or there, but that was the best that I could do.
I must say there are a lot of interesting people on this train. From the real drunk guy who went to the bars our our layover , then couldn’t find his seat, to the whole French student group to the guy heading home after working on the BP cleanup in the gulf. It is interesting how a train can bring the groups together. I just saw the family that is sitting right behind me, with the baby that is keeping us up. There are six kids in the family in addition to the baby, so I imagine the parents are having a tough trip themselves. That all said, I am so glad I chose to get the sleeper car on the way back instead of the way out. On the way back I will feel better about breaking out the good camera and being able to put it away in a room.
Still rolling across Texas, hanging out with all the others who are wearing what they slept in.

Layover photos

Some shots I took at 2am when I couldn’t sleep.

All aboard…all stop

And the adventure begins. I am on the Texas Eagle train heading out of Austin for the forty-two hour trip to Southern California to see my family and friends. I like riding the train and taking in the scenery that one would not see if they were to drive or fly. I have my iPhone, iPad, both are loaded with music and media to keep me busy and with the iPad I can also write a lot easier. Luckily there is a plug right here with the seats so when I drain my phone because I am using it as an access point for my iPad. I hope to get more posts that are greater than 140 characters. I was all settled in whine I found out that our car, the one continuing to LA, would be uncoupled in San Antonio, about ninety miles form home, to wait for the Sunset Limited train that goes to LA while the Texas Eagle turns around to head back up to Chicago. The Sunset Limited will pick up our car around 3am, and we will leave around 5:40am. The problem is that we get to San Antonio around 10pm. Eight, count them, eight hours that we will be standing still. And just over an hour or so away from my wife and pups (see the sad guys at home waiting for me ) Kinda sucks. It was my fault for not reading the schedule closer. At least I have the option to either wait in the station or sleep in the train car.
